This policy explains what data rookipedia.com collects, why, and what you can do about it.
Short version: we do not sell your data, we do not ask you to create an account, and the only information we hold directly is what you choose to send us. Most data collection on this site comes from third-party services — analytics and advertising — and those are described in detail below.
Who is responsible for your data
Rookipedia (“we”, “us”) operates this website and is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us for any privacy matter, including the rights listed below, through our contact page. Messages sent there go directly to the people who run the site.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Contact form. The name, email address, and message you submit. We use it to reply to you and for nothing else. Legal basis: your consent and our legitimate interest in answering you.
- Comments. Your name, email address, comment text, IP address, and browser user agent. WordPress collects these to operate comments and to fight spam. Your email address is never published. Legal basis: your consent.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs. Our host records IP address, request time, pages requested, referrer, and user agent. These are used for security and troubleshooting and are retained for a limited period. Legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the site running and secure.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and how people arrive. This uses cookies and processes a truncated IP address and device information. Legal basis: your consent.
- Advertising. Where advertising is shown, our advertising partners may set cookies and process device identifiers to select and measure ads. Legal basis: your consent.
We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16, and this site is not directed at them.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses them in three ways:
| Type | Purpose | Consent needed |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Security, page caching, remembering your cookie choice, and your details if you leave a comment | No |
| Analytics | Understanding which pages are useful | Yes |
| Advertising | Selecting, capping, and measuring ads | Yes |
You can withdraw or change your consent at any time using the cookie settings control on this site, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may break parts of the site.
Advertising and Google
This site is supported by advertising. Where ads are served:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and elsewhere on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.
- Google’s handling of data is described in its partner sites policy.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, advertising and analytics cookies are only set after you consent.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links are affiliate links. When you click one, the retailer may set a cookie so that a resulting purchase is attributed to us. We receive commission reports, not your personal details — we cannot see who bought what. Full details on our affiliate disclosure page.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers needed to run the site:
- Hostinger — web hosting and server logs.
- Google — analytics, Search Console, and advertising.
- Affiliate networks — click attribution when you follow an affiliate link.
Some of these providers are based outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard. We may also disclose data where we are legally required to.
How long we keep things
- Contact messages — kept while we deal with your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterwards, then deleted.
- Comments — kept indefinitely so conversations remain readable, unless you ask us to remove yours.
- Server logs — rotated and deleted on our host’s standard schedule.
- Analytics — retained according to our Google Analytics retention setting.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or transfer it elsewhere. You can also withdraw consent at any time, which does not affect processing that already happened.
If you are in California, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information as that term is normally understood.
To exercise any of these, use our contact page. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you may complain to your national data protection authority.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, kept up to date, and access to the administration area is restricted. No website can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect what we hold.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the site.
